Garden Gnomes on Ebay
Garden Gnomes Garden Gnomes are a subset of the whole Gnome phenominon. They are popular in Germany and are starting to show up in the USA. There are a variety of styles and materials used to make them.
I recently came across the term "Heissner Gnome" which I had not heardof before. A search of Ebay turns up an auction selling a rubber/plastic 14" tall garden gnome. This garden gnome was made in West Germany and apparently really designed to be displayed in the garden. The seller points out this gnome was "never in the garden and is free of dirt."
A second gnome listing didn't mention the garden, but the gnome was holding a small electric light. The plug won't work in the USA though.
From a third auction I learn that while these are called garden gnomes, at least some of them were produced as ads for Heissner Beer.
I understand the older Heisner garden gnomes were made from clay, while the new ones are a rubber or plastic material.
